The Swedish King was accompanied by Prime Minister of Sweden Magdalena Andersson (Prime Minister 2021 – 2022, Minister of Finance 2014 – 2021).

Carl XVI Gustaf (born April 30, 1946, at Haga Castle near Stockholm; full name Carl Gustaf Folke Hubertus) is the head of the Swedish royal house of Bernadotte and has been King of Sweden since 1973. He is the longest reigning king Swedish history. Since 1974 the royal office has been limited to ceremonial functions.

He has been an active patron of The Natural Step foundation since 1989. He then supported a national sustainability campaign involving every household in Sweden. A two-day television broadcast on various aspects around the topic accompanied by a postal package which was sent to every household (instruction booklet plus cassette tape). He also founded the King Carl Gustaf Environmental Competition and the Royal Colloquium, an international environmental conference. He further served as chairman of the Swedish section of the World Wildlife Fund’s Board of Trustees from 1988 to 2022, and as such advocated, among other things, for a ban on the killing of baby seals in 1989.
