The Secretary General discusses Syria with the Syriac Archbishop + Dionysius John Kawak [July 2021]

Mor Dionysius John Kawak, born in 1966 in Damascus, is Archbishop of the Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church for the Eastern USA. He was elevated to rank of the Archbishop 2010 by the laying on of hands by the late Patriarch Mor Ignatius Zakka I. He assumed the position of Patriarchal Office Director in Damascus.  In 2015 he became the Patriarchal Assistant to His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II. In the same year Patriarch Aphrem II appointed Mor Dionysius John Kawak as a Patriarchal Delegate for the Archdiocese of the Eastern United States. As Patriarchal Delegate, Archbishop Kawak ran the affairs of the Archdiocese. His Eminence was later appointed by Patriarch Aphrem II to the position of Patriarchal Vicar for the Archdiocese of the Eastern United States. On May 27, 2016, Archbishop Kawak was enthroned as Patriarchal Vicar for the Archdiocese of the Eastern United States and continues to serve in that role.
